“… [Craven County] on the South Side of Bay River and on the head branches of Tillman’s Cabbin and Procter’s Creek Beginning at a Gum in the Swamp in the line that parts Benjamin Whitaker’s and said Carruthers’s Land and runs along said line No 26 Wt 60 pole to a Holly a corner of said Carruthers Patent then along the line of the Patent No 80 pole to a Gum then along the patent line No 32 Et 120 pole to a Bay Tree then So 75 Et 48 pole to a post in the middle of a branch… containing one hundred and fifty acres of land and is part of a patent granted to said Carruthers for six hundred and Forty Acres bearing date the [15 November 1762]…”
