“…wheras John Gatlin late of Craven County dec’d was seized and possessed of [2 tracts] of land of [100 acres each] granted to him by patent and bearing date the 4th of May 1769 and the other bearing date the 25th January 1773 and whereas by the death of the said John Gatlin, the said Lazarus Gatlin and Ann Morris, two of the children of the said John Gatlin, became entitled to [2/8] of the above said [200 acres] of land which remain yet undivided. … in consideration of the sum of [$31] to us in hand paid by the said John Gatlin… we do hereby… make over unto the said John Gatlin all our right title and interest in and to the said [2/8] of the aforesaid [200 acres] of land, to have and to hold unto him the John Gatlin…”
