Power of Attorney
Charles Morris by his Last Will and Testament dated 8 November 1789, proved in the registers office of Island of Grenada… “therein particularly … appoint the said John Garraway and Benjamin Diggin and one William Gillock late of the said island Esquire now deceased executor of his said last will and testament… Whereas there are sundry debts due and owing to them the said John Garraway and Benjamin Diggin as surviving executors of the said Charles Morris from divers persons in [Craven County?] North Carolina and other parts of North Carolina, and whereas it is necessary for them the said [Garraway and Diggin] … to nominate and appoint one person as their attorney for recovery of such debts… the said [Garraway and Diggin] authorize and appoint Peter Morris, at present of the said Island of Grenade Gentleman (the only son and heir at law of the said Charles Morris, deceased) but intending shortly to depart for North American to be their true and lawful Attorney for them [Garraway and Diggin] as surviving executor…”
