November 1826, “directed to the Sheriff of Craven County commanding him of the [division] of the lands and tenements of Joseph Morris deceased which had descended to John W. Morris, Wallace Morris, Joseph Morris, Matilda Morris, & Samuel Morris, heirs at law of said Joseph Morris, and which said lands & tenements had been levied upon by execution issued upon a judgment of a Justice of the Peace of Craven County he should cause to be made the sum of $20.65 which lately in said court Thomas Leith had recovered against said heirs for damage besides $11.57½ for cost of suit whereof said heirs were convicted as appears of record & which said writ of exeuction was afterwards & before the day of the return thereof delivered to the said Elijah Clark (Sheriff) …” [further description of events leading to this deed, names Joseph S. Fowler, James Riggs]… property described as follows:
“…a tract or parcel of land, containing [27 acres]… on the South Side of Bay River bounded by Sarah Wharton (on north), Joseph Martin (on northeast), Martin McCotter (southeast), Robert Phipps (south), Aaron Morris (southwest)… being the same tract which was levied upon as above mentioned…”
